About this calculator
Pick a root, choose a scale, set the octave and A4 tuning. The tool outputs enharmonic‑aware note names, degrees with interval names, plus MIDI numbers and equal‑temperament frequencies. It’s built in the AvenueAR + StudioX design system for speed and clarity.
Supported scales
Major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor (ascending), church modes (Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Locrian), pentatonics (major/minor), blues, whole tone, and chromatic. More coming soon.
Tuning, MIDI & frequency
Frequencies are calculated in 12‑TET relative to your A4 value. Middle C is C4 (MIDI 60) with A4 at MIDI 69. Change A4 to explore 432 Hz, 444 Hz, or any studio reference you prefer.
Tips for producers
- Use Scale → Minor Pentatonic for quick hooks and guitar riffs.
- Lydian adds a dreamy #4; Mixolydian delivers dominant color for pop and EDM.
- Raise A4 slightly (441–444) for perceived brightness; lower (432) for a softer feel.
FAQ
Can I copy the notes? Yes — click any pill to copy.
Does it support flats and sharps? Enharmonics are normalized to common spellings; Db/C# and F#/Gb appear sensibly depending on the scale.
